DEPTH & 3D DEPTH CONTROLS
Read the scene as distance, live and in 3D
LIVE 2D DEPTH
In the DEPTH view, controls appear at the bottom center of the frame. Depth is rendered straight from the sensor, color always represents distance, never the camera image.
| Control | Function |
|---|---|
| RANGE slider | Maps scene depth to the display. Center (50) auto-fits the full scene, near and far. Left emphasizes close objects; right emphasizes far objects. |
| DEPTH COLOR ON/OFF | ON = false-color by distance (red through blue). OFF = mono grey by distance. |
LIVE 3D DEPTH (DEPTH_3D)
The DEPTH_3D view renders the depth sensor as an orbitable point cloud. The control bar sits over the 3D canvas.
| Control | Function |
|---|---|
| RANGE | Same as 2D, affects both mono and false-color in 3D. |
| DEPTH COLOR ON/OFF | False-color vs mono grey point cloud. |
| ↻ RESET | Return to the saved default camera angle (or auto-fit if none saved). |
| ⊡ SAVE VIEW | Store the current orbit as the startup default for 3D depth. |
Navigation
- Drag, rotate
- Scroll, zoom
- Right-click drag, pan
The stats line (points, heatmap) and hint text are hidden in DEPTH_3D for a clean field view. POINT_CLOUD and ROOM_MAP still show stats.
HOW THE DEPTH RANGE BEHAVES
- SPECTER automatically finds the nearest and farthest valid depth in the scene each frame, then smooths that range so the image does not flicker.
- RANGE at center is the recommended default for seeing everything at once.
- In false-color mode, the full palette spreads across that range, so close objects and far walls can both be visible when RANGE is centered.
- This is not the same as POINT_CLOUD mode, which textures its points from the live camera. In DEPTH and DEPTH_3D, color means distance only.
Seeing flicker on an older build? Update to the latest build (range smoothing fix) and keep RANGE near center.
SAVED VIEWPOINT
Use ⊡ SAVE VIEW to store your preferred 3D camera angle. SPECTER restores it on the next launch, so you walk into a venue with the depth view already framed. ↻ RESET returns to that saved angle at any time.
